Dr. Deborah Howe is Professor and Chair of the Department of Community and Regional Planning at Temple University. She was previously on the Portland State University faculty where she taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in planning practice and community development. Dr. Howe’s current research and professional interests include housing alternatives, land use innovations, and community planning for aging. She is the Principal Investigator on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Active Living grant examining the local adoption of land use policies that support a built environment enabling active, healthy lifestyles. Dr. Howe was the lead faculty in the development of a training program on sustainable land use practices for the Ministry of Land and Resources of the People’s Republic of China. She served as co-editor of the /Journal of the American Planning Association/ from 1998-2004. She is a site visitor for the Planning Accreditation Board and is on the Board of Trustees of the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. In 2000, Dr. Howe was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Certified Planners, in recognition of her contributions to higher education.
