Shefer is a Professor of Urban and Regional Economics at the Technion- Israel Institute of Technology. He holds the Kunin-Lunenfeld Chair in Urban and Regional Planning and is the former Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning at the Technion where he has taught since 1970. Professor Shefer has served as Senior Economist in the urban and regional economics Division of the World Bank in Washington DC, and as a Visiting Professor at the Tinbergen Institute in Amsterdam. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at several leading universities in the US and recently he held an appointment as a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Taubman Center, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. His areas of expertise are: urban and regional economics, joint transportation and land use modeling, modeling urban and regional economic growth, technology transfer, economic and technological aspects of industrial growth and development, and various aspects of transportation and environmental economics. He has published widely in these fields – several books, and over one hundred articles in various international scientific journals.
