Izhak Schnell is a Professor of social and cultural geography and former chairperson at the department of Geography and Human Environment at the University of Tel Aviv. He was also former president of the Israeli Association of Geographers. He specializes in studying structures of social spaces in a globalizing reality. In particular, he studies socio-spatial segregation of ethnic groups in Tel Aviv and Israeli Arabs’ embeddedness in socio-spatial networks. In addition, he worked on the role of landscapes and places in forming identity and spatial lifestyles. Lately he has started to study human exposure to environmental stressors in cities.
